TLC Chicago Concert reviews
Great show with room for some improvement
First off, I would like to say both groups were fantastic. Bone Thugs is one of the few rap groups that perform full versions of their songs and I believe that adds to the experience.
What worked well. Bone Thugs was solid as always. I would have another song or two, rather than extra time for the DJ, but they hit all the high points. For TLC, I loved the stage up. It was more than I was expecting and it really enhanced the experience. I loved the dancers and choreography along with the live band. In my opinion, the songs were more alive. I also liked the venue. It’s a little bit of drive, especially on a Monday after work, but it was a good choice.
What could have been better. The show was originally scheduled for Saturday night, but was pushed to Monday, due to illness. I’m glad T-Boz and the other performers were willing to adjust their schedules, but a Monday night show almost always loses something. The crowd was likely a lot smaller, but there was a benefit as the venue moved everyone from the upper decks down to the floor level. I wish I could add at least half a star because that made it nicer for both the fans and the performers. My only other critique of the show was the TLC’s DJ’s song selection. If you are at a live show for 2 groups that were huge in the 90’s, why wouldn’t you play more music from that time period. When he played classic 90’s jams, the crowd was really into it. That excitement usually fizzled when he played more current club jams. Aside from those minor issues, I had a great time at the show.
Thanks and R.I.P. Left Eye. We miss you and we love you.
Like fine wine...
I've seen TLC multiple times since 1999. While nothings beats having seen T-Boz, Left Eye, and Chilli perform together, the surviving women have adapted their show with the times and the quality of the show only gets better. Their rapport with the audience is fun and free, and their vocals and dance steps are on point. Their DJ serves as the most likable hype man in the industry. Their dancers are insanely talented, doing choreography that's light years ahead of what most touring dancers are doing. This particular show, designed for a casino setting, was jam-packed with the hits and fan favorites. There were a few moments here and there where they'd talk to the audience, but they were mostly just hitting you with hit song after hit song. Some songs started out in their classic form, only to be remixed and updated at the end, giving the perfect mix of what made us fall in love with TLC in the beginning, but also showing that they're constantly evolving and adapting. The audience loved their show, and afterward they were kind enough to greet a lot of people who came up to the stage. I walked in with high expectations and they exceeded those expectations. I'm hoping they'll return to the area soon!
